Shropshire insignia

Market Lavington Museum collects items with a connection to Market Lavington and Easterton in central Wiltshire. We are a very long way away from the county of Shropshire. However, an item we are currently accessioning into our museum collection definitely has a Shropshire connection.

We have very little information about it. The entry form calls it a cap insignia, so it was presumably fastened to the cap of a military uniform. A quick scan through of the many images of Shropshire badges on the internet did not locate one like this, so we would be very grateful for comments from anyone with knowledge on the subject.

We do know why it is an appropriate artefact for our museum. It was dug up in a garden on High Street in Market Lavington. Nearby White Street leads up to the chalk downland of Salisbury Plain, which is a military training area.
