Peggy Gye

It is with deep regret that we must record the death of our founder, Peggy Gye. Market lavington Museum was always her vision and she fought long and hard to find and organise premises and get the support from county which enabled us to open our doors back in 1985. Peggy remained curator for the next 23 years and when failing health persuaded her to relinquish the reins, she remained active as our president.

Our sympathies are offered to Tom, her husband for almost 70 years, and to her wider family.  The whole community will miss her drive and enthusiasm. The picture below shows Peggy opening the Community Hall in Market Lavington in October 2007.

We are so sorry to hear of Peggy’s passing. Though I have never met her, her letters made me feel as though we were old friends.A lovely lady.
