An unknown house

Our curator was recently sent a copy of this picture. It clearly has Market Lavington credentials, for the photographer was Alf Burgess of High Street, Market Lavington.

Can any reader locate this house? The photo dates from around 1900 and was taken by Burgess of Market Lavington.

At Market Lavington Museum, we do not recognise the house or the location. We do not think it is in Market Lavington.

Alf Burgess and his sons used bicycles to transport the substantial cameras used in Victorian and Edwardian days. Although based in Market Lavington they did not confine their activities to the parish. But the picture, almost certainly, is within a dozen miles of Lavington.

Can any reader help us identify the house? The owner of the original photo would love to know where it is.

We have our answer already. This is Tilshead House in the village of Tilshead, a few miles south of Lavington.

Can you add anything to this or do you want to know more?
