Charabancs

We have met Fred Sayer and his bus company several times on this blog. Today we look at a collection of his charabancs in the Market Place in Market Lavington.

Fred Sayer's charabancs fill the Market Place in Market Lavington

Here there are 8 vehicles, each with a driver at the front, occupying much of The Market Place. The old coaches look to be about 24 seaters. Perhaps they were off to Lavington Station to meet a train and take sightseers to Stonehenge. The photo probably dates from about 1930.

Of course, the Market Place has changed out of all recognition for none of the buildings seen in the photo now remain. So, to get bearings, these charabancs are facing what is now called Rochelle Court across the road, Northbrook, which drops down in its hill just off photo at the right.
