George Baker

Not all that many ‘celebs’ have lived in Market Lavington. One who did was George Baker who also lived at West Lavington and was responsible for founding a youth club there, which now operates in Market Lavington as well.

When work commitments permitted, this actor threw himself into local life. He may have been known nationally and internationally as a star actor of film and TV, but locally he was just George, a fairly ordinary guy with a desire to make life better for others.

George made Pat’s day when he signed a photo for her. This was recently given to Market Lavington Museum.

George Baker aka Inspector Wexford who gave this photo to local lady, Pat.

The Pat in question is a well-known local lady who has always been a keen supporter of the museum. She is no longer very mobile, but our curator visits her, with photos on which she can still identify people.

So thanks, Pat, for this one for, oddly, we had no George Baker memorabilia in the museum.
