A blue and white plate

Willow pattern plates, in blue and white with a Chinese scene on them, have been popular in England since the late 1700s. Other blue and white picture plates are often seen in use for meals or displayed on walls.

In Market Lavington Museum, we have a plate dating from the 1880s with a scene that doesn’t appear to be oriental. It decorates the wall by our kitchen range now, but was formerly in use at Spring Villa, along the road known as The Spring, in Market Lavington village.
