An Oddfellows photograph

At Market Lavington Museum, we have quite a number of photographs taken by the local Burgess family of photographers. There are a couple of large, card mounted pictures of groups of Oddfellows. This was a friendly society, with a lodge based in the local town of Devizes in Wiltshire and we know that various Market Lavington men were members. The Providential Dolphin Lodge was housed in the building on Maryport Street, now home to the Halifax Building Society. On our photograph, we can just read Court Dolphin of Devizes at the top of the banner behind the man on horseback.

Take a look at our earlier blog entry Friendly Oddfellows, which features an account book, linking some of our local villagers to this friendly society in about 1916.

Next time we will look at the other Burgess photograph of the Oddfellows.
