The 1933 WI report, which featured in our previous blog entry, concluded with a tribute to their former secretary, Florence Welch, who had died at the early age of forty. Florence, known as Floss, was the mother of our museum founder, Peggy Gye.

Readers of this report will note that both Florence and her replacement as WI secretary are referred to as

which was customary until the latter part of the twentieth century. The nearby village or Urchfont, was spelt with an initial E in the past.
