Market Lavington plate

June 27, 2016

This is another new item at Market Lavington Museum and a particularly welcome one for it is unlike other items in style and colour.. But in essence, it is a plate.

This is quite an elegant plate with its pleasing blue rim with perforated patterns in it. In the centre there is a picture taken across the crossroads in the middle of Market Lavington.

This looks to be based on an Edwardian photograph so we date the plate to around 1910. Sad to say there are no maker’s marks to help identify it.

We guess that Alf Burgess, the photographer, had them made to sell in his High Street shop.

We’d like to thank Kayleigh for donating this item to the museum.
