At Easterton Vicarage

Our recent donation of files and scrap books about Easterton contains some photographs going back a century or more. Here we have one taken at Easterton Vicarage.

Easterton Church was built in Victorian times and consecrated in 1874 and, unlike today when it is one of five churches in a benefice with one rector, Easterton had its own vicar. He lived at the vicarage, now known as Easterton House.

We are not sure what event was happening in the photo, but it obviously involved lots of children.

We could take a guess from the hats that it might date from the Edwardian period. The lady who put these files together must have made them available for people to look through, for the caption at the top asks if anyone could date the picture and she was given an answer.

Some of the people are also named.

How lovely to have this memento of a local occasion from over a hundred years ago.
