Market Lavington Church Fete in 1955

Every year (pretty well) St Mary’s Church holds a summer fete. The venue might vary but the format remains similar from year to year. Each year, accounts are kept and here we have the fete accounts for 1955.

Some of these events might still be seen at a church fete in the 21st century. Other’s like ‘Threepenny Pieces’ might well attract attention these days. The threepenny bit ceased to be legal tender back in 1971 and that was more than forty years ago.

What’s really nice about these accounts? The list of names, of course!

Names like Mrs Milsom, Mrs Gale, Mrs Buckland and Mrs King will bring back memories to folks who may have been youngsters back in 1955.

If you have memories, why not share them with us.
