A skirt and jacket

On the settle in our 2024 display of outdoor clothing, we see a dummy wearing a tweed skirt and jacket.

This suit dates from the 1940s, so is about eighty years old. It was made in Leicester, but was owned and worn by a Market Lavington lady. Neatly tailored, the jacket fastens with buttons.

Nowadays, we would expect the skirt to fasten with a zip, but ours has press studs. Zips were invented in 1917, but used mostly in footwear for about twenty years.

It has two box pleats.
